Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 55 years, Anne; and his two daughters along with their families, Elaine and Harry Dyck and their children, Leigh (Julie), Brent (Ginette, and great-granddaughter Cameron), and Glen, Frank and Lorraine Fast and their children, Grant and Julie. He is also survived by three sisters, Mary, Anne, and Kay. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Abe, Jack, Peter and Henry; and sisters, Margaret Walde and Helene Issac. He was born August 28, 1918 in Orlaff Zagradovka, Russia. In November of 1926 he moved with his family to Canada. Shortly after arriving in Canada, the family moved to Oak Bluff. In 1949 he married the love of his life Anne, and together they farmed until dads retirement in 1980. They then moved to Winnipeg where they continued to enjoy the company of family and friends. He was an active church member, and until his passing loved to listen to spiritual hymns. During his three month stay at Victoria Hospital he received many compliments from the staff on his beautiful music. The family would like to thank Dr. Cavers and the many nurses and health care aids on 4 South. Their kindness and compassion will never be forgotten. Also a special thank you to homecare workers Angela and Olga who made it possible to keep dad at home where he belonged. God bless you all. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 30, at 2:00 p.m. at Springstein Mennonite Church with interment in Springstein Cemetery. Viewing will be held prior to the funeral. If friends so desire, donations may be made to Alzheimers Manitoba, 120 Donald St., R3C 4G2. "Peacefully sleeping, resting at last, His weary trials and trouble are past, In silence he suffered, in patience he bore, Till God called him home to suffer no more."
