NORMAN GEORGE CLARKE On October 25, 2004 Norm passed away after a brave battle with Alzheimers. Norm is survived by his beloved wife Florence (Dolly) who was his steadfast caregiver over the past years during his illness. He also leaves to cherish his memory his children, Heather (Tom Frain) and Gregory; special granddaughter Julia Frain; sister Elsie Pennie; brother Jim Clarke; special friend Sean Ross; brother-in-law Howard Smith (Evelyn) and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, James and Elizabeth Clarke. Norm was born on November 25, 1928 and raised in Brandon, MB. Norm was a splendid dancer and met Dolly Smith at Clear Lake at Danceland. They married in 1956. In 1963, with their two children, they moved to Winnipeg. Norm was involved in the automotive industry for most of his career where he made many long term friends. Fraternally, Norm was initiated in the Red River Lodge in 1965. He was a past active member of the Valley of Winnipeg A & ASR Lodge, attaining the highest order of the 33rd degree in Scottish Rite. He was involved in the Khartum Temple Pipes and Drums and the Khartum Arabian Horse Guard with his beloved horse Surtaff. More recently, Norman was a Mason with the combined Lodges of Red River and Charleswood. Norm was invited to be a member of the Royal Order of Scotland in April 1998 and was a member of the Cameron Highlanders Pipe Band for many years. These organizations provided many deep lasting friendships and memorable fun times. Norm loved his family deeply and was a wonderful father. He was very involved with his children in an era when most fathers were not. He could often be found on the skating rink or toboggan hill, camping with Boy Scouts, teaching his son to drum and ride the horse or even chasing fire trucks with Heather when she was a toddler. He was proud of his childrens accomplishments and was always there to encourage them with support in their education and career endeavours. Upon retirement, Norm and Dolly walked many miles a day and took up golf while enjoying their extended summers at the cottage in Clear Lake. Norm also enjoyed travelling the world with the Massed Pipe Band to the Silver Broom and the Rose Bowl Parades. The winter months found Norm and his wife spending time travelling to Maui, Hawaii and Coolangatta, Australia. His quick wit and charm were enjoyed by all. We will miss him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimers Society, 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, R3C 4G2 or the Khartum Shrine Patient Transportation Fund, 1155 Wilkes Ave., Winnipeg, R3P 1B9.
