Sophie is survived by her four children, Ron (Doris), Judy (Keith), Fred, Jeff (Cindee) her seven grandchildren, Laura (Korey), Karley, Emily, Scott, Nycole, Allison, Alex; her sisters, Marie and Tillie (Bill) and her sisters-in-law, Anne and Winnie; and all those who loved her. She was predeceased by her husband Albert; her sisters, Ann and Kay; and her brothers, Peter and Nick. Sophie was born on September 15, 1921 in Merridale, MB near the town of Roblin. Her rural upbringing in the rolling hills of the Shell Valley region instilled in her a strong work ethic, a deep appreciation of nature and a wealth of fond memories. Above all else, Sophie deeply valued family, and her devotion and love for her children and grandchildren knew no bounds. She gave to them generously and supported them in all their endeavours. She frequently hosted large family gatherings where she served fantastic home-cooked dinners. At her place all were welcome and she always had room for a few more. Sophie also valued education. She wrote and read often; maintained a keen interest in politics and current events. Sophie was a life long learner who embraced learning. She actively encouraged her children and grandchildren to pursue post secondary education and provided them with the moral and financial support to ensure their success. Sophie had many other interests. She was an avid gardener; a fan of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Toronto Blue Jays. She enjoyed knitting and sewing everything from sweaters to blankets. She also enjoyed baking and cooking. Sophie spent her life surrounded by those who loved her. It was easy to love her because she exemplified so many wonderful qualities. Among other things, she was compassionate, caring, curious, humourous, warm and giving. She touched each and every person that took the time to get to know her. Our memories of her will be treasured forever. We love you Nana, now and always. Be at peace. Sleep well dear Nana, embrace your slumber, for your path converges now with countless others, with brothers and sisters and friends and lovers. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Wednesday, November 3, 2:30 p.m. at the Covenant Christian Reform Church, 653 Knowles Ave. All are welcome. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.
