EDWARD MICHAEL EWANOCHKO Peacefully on Thursday, October 14, 2004 at the age of 57 years, with his wife at his side, Edward Michael Ewanochko of Winnipeg, MB passed away at the Health Sciences Centre. Ed was born on July 15, 1947 in Shoal Lake, MB. During his early years he lived in a number of communities in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. In 1962, the family set down roots in Brandon. Ed completed his high school at Neelin High School in 1967. After trying a year in university, he started driving trucks for a living. Eds trucking career took him to all of the Western Provinces as a driver and supervisor. After 20 years in the transportation industry, he returned to school, eventually ending up at the Faculty of Business at the University of Manitoba. When he returned to work it was not as a driver, but in management as a director of safety and with both levels of government. For his commitment to transportation safety management and operations, Ed was awarded a national Award of Achievement in 2001. At the time of his death, he was employed by Marsh Canada in Winnipeg as a transportation consultant. Ed was very well read, and could hold a conversation with anybody on most subjects. Politics and history were favourite topics as were motorcycles and racing. He was proud of his Ukrainian heritage, but the most important thing for him was that he lived in Canada, the greatest country in the world. Ed was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Winnipeg. He will be missed by all who knew him. Ed is survived by his loving wife, Portia Kruse; daughter, Katherine (Trevor Dubois) Ewanochko of Winnipeg; his mother, Katie Ewanochko of Brandon; brother, Dennis Ewanochko of Winnipeg; and step-children, Martin Kruse of Brandon, Kathrine (James) Littleton of Fargo, ND and Kristen Kruse of Halifax, NS. The Ceremony to celebrate Eds life was held at Memories Chapel on Monday October 18, 2004. Pastors Lanny Knutson and Glen Krentz officiated. Interment followed in the Brandon Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Ed to the Canadian Cancer Society Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7 or to the Manitoba Trucking Association, Ewanochko Transportation Scholarship Fund, 25 Bunting St., Winnipeg, MB R2X 2P5. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to memorieschapel@mts.net. Arrangements were with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, Brandon, 204-727-0330.
