NORMAN SYDNEY MANTIK It is with great sorrow, the family announces the passing of Norman Sydney Mantik aged 62 years of Ashern, MB, on October 27, 2004 at the Victoria General Hospital in Winnipeg, MB. Norman was born September 21, 1942 in Ashern, and attended school at Ashern and New Home. On May 5, 1973 he married Lynda Kear and together they owned and operated Maple Leaf Towing in Winnipeg, MB. In March 1994 they moved to Ashern to farm. Norman also managed the Ashern Fisheries Co-op for five years. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife Lynda; son Trevor (Amanda) and grandson Will, of Ashern; and daughter Rachel of Winnipeg. He is also survived by brother Robert (Suzie) of Winnipeg; sister Isobel (Paul) Kiesman of British Columbia; brother Donald (Lyla) of Winnipeg; sister Margaret (Paul) Noque of Regina, SK; brother Stanley of Regina; stepbrother Butch Buechler (Terri) sister-in-law Glenda Mantik of Edmonton, AB; his mother-in-law Isabel Kear; also many nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members. He was predeceased by his father Roy Mantik; mother and stepfather, Marjorie and Julius Ziesman; brother Edward Mantik; sister and brother-in-law, Yvonne and Rene Ratte; also his father-in-law Carl Kear. Funeral service will be held on Friday, November 5 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ashern Centennial Hall with Pastor Nancy Walker officiating. Interment to follow in the Ashern Lutheran Cemetery. Friends and relatives may pay their respects from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 4 at Arnason Funeral Home in Ashern. Viewing also at the hall prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Alvin Denhard, Terry Johnson, Lawrence Peppler, Reg Schwartz, Charlie Yanke and Kenny Koch. The family wishes to thank the Ashern ambulance attendants, staff at the Lakeshore Hospital, doctors and nurses at ICU at Victoria Hospital and Unit 4.
