MERAN ELIZABETH GRAIN (GEMMEL)

MERAN ELIZABETH GRAIN (nee GEMMEL) On October 24, 2004 in Vancouver, Meran Grain passed away. Meran was born in Selkirk, MB in 1910, the daughter of Frank and Margaret Gemmel. She was predeceased by her husband Orton in March 2001; her parents and three brothers, William, Francis and Harry. She will be missed and fondly remembered by her daughter Anne and her husband Greg Shaffer; granddaughters, Daya and Leena and three great-grandchildren, Kai, Aysha and Meran. Also surviving is brother John of Calgary and three sisters, Mary Downie, Margaret and Elsie Gemmel of Winnipeg, as well as many nieces and nephews. Following completion of her nurses training at the Winnipeg General Hospital Meran practiced private-duty nursing in Winnipeg prior to joining the Army in 1942 and serving as a Nursing Sister in various locations overseas. A memorial service will be held in Vancouver on November 3.
