MARY KOLAS (nee CHORNENKI) January 18, 1908 - October 29, 2004 Peacefully on October 29, 2004, Mary passed away at the Holy Family Nursing Home at the age of 96 years. She will always be remembered by her daughter-in-law Dali Kolas; her six grandchildren, Gary (Joyce), Mike (Barb), Lorraine (Larry), Jody (Reinhardt), Susan, David (Caroline) 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mary leaves us to join her husband Mike (1956) and her sons, Frankie (1943) and Bill (1996) four brothers, Michael and Paul Kornek, Bill and Peter Chornenki; two sisters, Jennie Smith and Ann Cahan. Mary was the oldest living child of Helen and John Chornenkis seven children. She was married to Mike Kolas on August 25, 1928 and had two children. Mary was born and raised in Winnipegs North End, but travelled with her husband to many places in the world. Mary and her husband owned and ran the Drake Hotel in Winnipeg for many years. Together they built a cottage at Dorothy Lake and the Kolas apartments on Broadway Avenue where she lived for several years. After it was sold, she moved back to the North End. She spent many happy times at her cottage, surrounded by her family and friends. Memorial service will be held on Monday, November 1 at 11:00 a.m at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marys memory to a charity of your choice.
