BEN REMPEL February 27, 1940 - October 28, 2004 Ben was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and a friend. He grew up on a farm in Blumenort, Manitoba and was never far from his farm roots during his 40 year career in the welding, trucking, and auto industries. You can take the boy from the farm, but you cant take the farm from the boy. He loved playing cards, was a die-hard Maple Leafs fan, and loved holidaying with their motor home. Ben was a lifelong participant in amateur hockey in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, initially as a player and later as a coach and manager. He was a special uncle and mentor to his nieces and nephews - encouraging them in sports and other activities. Ben was a great story teller. He and Dorene were married in 1964. They enjoyed many years with their children, son Maury, and daughter Tracy (Bradley Dorcas) and their two special grandsons, Dusty and Boyd. Besides his immediate family, Ben is survived by his mother-in-law, Helena Fehr; sister, Susan McLaughlin; brothers: Henry (Muriel) and Wally (Irene) sisters-in-law, Margareth, Tina and Esther, Erna (Ike Suderman), Ellana (Murray Ronald), and Linda Fehr; brothers-in-law, John Van Kampen, Arthur Stow, John (Kathy) Fehr and Ron (Betty) Fehr; and many nieces and nephews. Ben is predeceased by his parents, Henry B. and Katharina Rempel, father-in-law Cornelius I. Fehr, four brothers, three sisters, and two brothers-in-law. This kind and gentle man died suddenly on Thursday October 28, 2004. Visitation will be held at W.J.Jones & Son Funeral Home on Sunday October 31, 2004 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at W.J.Jones & Son Chapel on Monday November 1, 2004 at 10:30 am. Della Ferguson will officiate. A luncheon will follow at St.Andrews United Church. Memorials to Minor Hockey, would be appreciated. A special thanks to the Emergency Team and the medical staff at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital for their efforts in trying to revive "Beno". What we wouldnt give to take one more walk, or just quietly sit and have just one more talk. In living memory of Ben, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
