JODY ALLISON HUNTER (nee SEMMER) In the warmth and comfort of her home and surrounded by the love of her family, Jody passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with inflammatory breast cancer on Sunday, October 31, 2004. Besides her loving husband Elliott and dear children, Lucas and Jonas Buller, Jody leaves to cherish her memory, parents, Vivian and Edward Semmer; sisters, Tracy Semmer (Brett) and Corey Martin (David) niece Carly; and nephew Jarrett. Jody was born on September 2, 1952 in Winnipeg and lived in the city all her life. She attended Springfield Heights Elementary and River East Collegiate. While attending University of Manitoba she put herself through school working at Eatons. With dedication and conviction she earned her Teachers Certificate and fulfilled a lifelong dream of being a primary grades school teacher. Jody loved and enjoyed working with young children. Her first teaching position was in Pine Falls and she then secured a posting with the Seven Oaks School Division where she taught for the last 29 years. Jody was the kindergarten teacher at Elwick School when her illness prevented her from working in October, 2002. Jody was a beautiful woman who always took pride in her appearance and always strove to stay in good spiritual and physical condition with a variety of activities. She enjoyed playing the guitar and banjo, especially for her students. She enjoyed all types of dancing and took lessons in tap, ballroom, and swing. She loved cross county and downhill skiing, golf, scuba lessons and enjoyed the outdoors. She especially enjoyed helping others and took part in many church activities through out the years. Jody was an active member of the Wellness Institute where she and Elliott first met and fell in love in September 2001, and were married on November 2, 2002. Jody was a very caring, loving, and compassionate person who brought joy, love, and happiness with all whom she had contact. The day was always a little brighter and better if you had the good fortune of Jody being a part of it. She was devoted to and adored her family, and was so proud of the fine young men that Lucas and Jonas have grown to be. She loved family gatherings and seeing others happy. Jody loved and always looked forward to the phone calls and hospital and home visits from her many friends and coworkers over the past two years. Family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at CancerCare Manitoba and the St. Boniface Hospital, especially Dr. Krahn and Heather, Dr. Butler and to Lynn and Marianne from the palliative care home care Program, who provided such great care for Jody and were such a help to Elliott. A special thanks to cousin Linda for helping to comfort Jody and serve as her spiritual advisor during the last few months of her journey. Funeral service will be held at the Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St., on Wednesday, November 3 at 10:00 a.m., with Pastor Loren Pullman officiating. Interment at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
