Offer Condolences or MemoryRUTH (RUSKA) KICENKO (nee ZASITKO) December 6, 1930 - October 31, 2004 Peacefully, in the comfort of her bed at Percy E. Moore Hospital, Ruth passed away early Sunday morning, October 31, 2004 with loving family at her bedside. She will always be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by Steve, her loving husband of 54 years and her beloved children, David Kicenko (Diane) of Poplarfield, MB, and Dale Podaima of Winnipeg, MB; along with her grandchildren, Leanne Foust (Stephan), Nathan Kicenko, Melissa Kicenko and Heather Kicenko; sisters and brothers-in-law, Anne Zasitko, Bernice Kicenko, Ann Hrychyshyn, Sylvia Mazar, Mary Staromansky (Paul) and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Ruth was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Wasylena Zasitko, Sam and Magdalena Kicenko; sister Mary Zasitko; sister Mary Boychuk (Dmytro) brother John Zasitko (Stella) brother Harry Zasitko; brothers-in-law, Bill and Mike Kicenko (Anne), Bill Hrychyshyn, Victor Mazar; and son-in-law Gordon Podaima. Born in High Plains, MB, Ruth moved to nearby Poplarfield with her husband Steve in June 1950. There they owned and operated a family farm. In her younger years, Ruth was an avid curler and participated in many events arranged by the Poplarfield Ladies Aid. She loved and promoted her Ukrainian heritage through language, unforgettable cooking and love of music and dancing. Ruth will be fondly remembered for her kindness, generosity, talkativeness, genuine warm hospitality and love of nature and gardening. Special thanks to Dr. Cecile Andreas for her compassionate care and support and thanks to the accompanying doctors, nurses, nurses aids and staff at the Percy E. Moore Hospital in Hogdson, MB for their care during Ruths final weeks. Viewing will be held at 1:00 p.m., and funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 5 at the Poplarfield Community Centre in Poplarfield with Pastor Trudy Thorarinson officiating. Interment will follow at the Poplarfield Community Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Nathan Kicenko, Allan Hrychychyn, Rod Boychuk, Bob Davis, Bob Blahey, Frank Grzenda, and Paul Pododworny. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fisher Handi-van or CancerCare Manitoba. Mom, Baba, you will always hold a special place in our hearts. Thank you for everything you did for us and for your love. May you rest peacefully among the roses and in Gods hands. Arrangements in care of the Fisher Funeral Home.
