CHARLES WILLIS MILLER Peacefully on October 31, 2004 at the age of 83 with his family at his side, Dad was reunited with his parents and brothers and sisters in heaven. Charles was born in Dauphin, MB and spent his early years on the family farm. He came to Winnipeg to work at a young age before joining the Navy to serve his country for four and a half years. Upon returning to Winnipeg, Charles married the love of his life Dorothy in 1946 and had a long career with the city before retiring after 35 years. Dad was a lifetime member of the John Osborne ANAF No. 1 and also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion No. 4. Always a dedicated and active member, he volunteered and served on countless committees over the years. Dad also enjoyed fishing and hunting right into his 80s and was a member of the Horn Hunters for 50 years. A devoted family man, Dad always enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. And of course, he especially liked to watch the boys play hockey. His memory will live on in the heart of his loving wife Dorothy of 58 years and his brother Andy of Fork River, MB. Also left to cherish his memory are his children, Marvin (Raynelle), Sandra (Denis), Glen, and Darryl (Debbie) his grandchildren, Kelly (Christine), Trevor (Catherine), Daniel, Nicole (Matt), Simon, and Ivan; his great-grandchildren, Kory, Owen, and Kaitlin; and also his numerous nephews and nieces. Do not stand at my grave and forever weep. I am not there; I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumns rain. When you awaken in the mornings hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and forever cry. I am not there. I did not die. The family would like to send special thanks to the Palliative Care nursing staff at SBGH as well as home care workers Brenda and Kate for their excellent care and compassion. Service will be held on Thursday, November 4 at 12:30 p.m. with public viewing between 12:00 and 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. with Rev. Gordon Shields officiating. A reception will follow at John Osborne Unit No.1 Army Navy, Ellice and Empress (300-1395 Ellice Ave.). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 160 - 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
