Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGUS SCHWARZ With his devoted and loving wife Helen at his bedside, Gus Schwarz passed away peacefully on October 31, 2004 at the age of 90 years. He was born August 6, 1914 in Czechoslovakia and immigrated to Canada in 1948. He was a master stonecutter by trade and operated his own shop near Elie, MB where he worked until retiring at age 75. During his career he created numerous monuments and architectural pieces that can be found in Winnipeg and other parts of Canada. He was well known and greatly respected throughout his trade bringing a passion and high level of ability to a very specialized skill. He was an honest, generous and kind man with a great sense of humour and style. He loved to laugh and was humble when it came to his wonderful talent. Gus will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 52 years Helen; son Vern (Rose) daughter Barbara (Chris) of Vernon, BC; three grandchildren, Melissa Jessica and Kyle; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his brothers, Phillip, John and Steve; and his sister Katie. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Bethania Personal Care Home for their wonderful care and support for Gus, especially during his last days. Funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 4 at St. Gerard Catholic Church, 45 Foster St. In lieu of flowers donations to the Alzheimers Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald St., R3C 3R6 or Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200 - 6 Donald St., R3L 0K6, will be gratefully accepted in Guss memory.
