FRED HILL Fred passed away peacefully on Monday, November 1, 2004 at the age of 79 years. Fred will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years Mollie; daughters, Carol (Gary), Barbara (Neil) grandchildren, Ryan, Graeme, Kristen, Janine and Laura; brother Walter (Hilda) also numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Martha; brother Tom; and sister Margaret. Fred was born in Winnipeg in 1925. He grew up in a time where there was little money, by grade eight he had quit school so he could work to help his family. After serving four years overseas during the Second World War as a field radio operator, Fred returned to Winnipeg, where he met Mollie. They married in 1949 he then obtained his journeymans electrician certificate and began his long career with Comstock International. He retired in 1989 after 35 years. He had many hobbies throughout his life, such as woodworking, carpentry and playing cribbage, but his favourite passion of all was fishing. Fred was a quiet and gentle man who loved the outdoors and nature. He preferred being alone on a quiet lake, than being anywhere else. His soft spot for animals was apparent even as a child when he would bring home stray dogs and cats. He instilled this love of nature in his daughters, who have many fond memories of hiking, fishing and exploring with him as youngsters. Everyone who knew him respected him for his quiet, unassuming approach also for being a man of his word. He will be missed. A service to celebrate his life will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, November 5 at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway with Rev. Don McIntyre officiating. Flowers gratefully declined.
