Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGORDON F. REID On November 3, 2004, surrounded by his loving family, Gord passed away after a lengthy battle with Alzheimers. He was predeceased by his mother, Annie Reid, in 1985. He will be lovingly remembered and cherished by his wife of 51 years, Barbara; son Peter (Judy) and daughters, Cathy McFee (Ed Zegarac) and BJ Reid (John Rempel). Gord was born on July 26, 1928 in Baltimore, MD, and moved to Winnipeg in 1930 with his mother. After graduating from Machray School and St. Johns Tech, Gord began his career at Swifts. It was at a Swifts company choir party that he met his future wife, Barbara. They married in September of 1953. After working for Kraft Foods in Prince Albert, SK, Gord joined Air Canada (then Trans-Canada Airlines) in 1954 and the newlyweds moved back to Winnipeg. Until his retirement in 1985, Gord worked in Air Canadas Finance department and was instrumental in development of the EnRoute credit card. Always fastidious, he earned the affectionate nick-name "The Silver Fox" at the office. Meanwhile at home, his family and friends knew him by another nick-name, "Norm, the old poop" (from "On Golden Pond"). Gord always had a twinkle in his eye and a great sense of humour. Travel was a large part of family life. Unfortunately, a one week vacation to England in 1968 turned into a seven week stay which was made tolerable only through the kindness of relatives. Knowing that life is not always safe or fair, Gord became a volunteer for the Neighbourhood Watch program and received a certificate of appreciation from the Winnipeg Police Service to honour his good citizenship. Gord was fond of golf, live theatre, good music and dancing. Leisure time was also filled with "puttering", an activity that resulted in a lawn and garden that is the envy of the neighbourhood. Gord was a wonderful father and loving husband. Family, friend and coworkers knew Gord to be a gentle man with a gentle spirit. We miss you. The family would like to thank the staff at Deer Lodge, T3 and 7E, for their kind and tender care of Gord. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 6 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE 885-9715 Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolence at www.chapellawn.mb.ca
