GEORGE REW Gently, surrounded by his family, George Rew passed away on Tuesday, November 2, 2004, at Deer Lodge Centre at the age of 87. He was predeceased by his brothers, John and Fred; and nephew Larry. George is survived by his loving wife of over 60 years, Eileen; children, Dawn (Verne) Johnson, Rachael (Dennis) Mierke; grandchildren, Kristie (Alex), Erin (Todd), Trevor (Ida), Tamara (Vernon) great-grandchildren, Hailey, Amy and Stephanie; brother Reg; extended family and friends. George was born and grew up in Siemens, SK. During the war, George, along with his brother and lifelong friend, Fred served overseas, where he met his wife Eileen. Following the war, they moved to Winnipeg. George worked for Macleans Warehouse and later for Standard Brands and Lowneys. He was active in St. Barnabas and St. Peters Anglican Churches. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, walking, biking and camping. George was outgoing and loved to be involved in the community activities. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 5 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Reception to follow. The family would like to thank the excellent staff at Deer Lodge, Lindenwood Manor, and the Home Care Workers for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimers Society of Winnipeg, 10-120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2.
