IRENE OLIVE TOOLE (WELLS) (nee RASMUSSEN) It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the sudden passing of our beloved mother, nana and sister on October 31, 2004 at the age of 82 years, in her home. She was predeceased by her husband Bernard Toole in January 1997; her parents, Ida and Ole Rasmussen; her brothers, Erling and Harold; sisters, Gladys Clarke and Helen Brown. Left to mourn her passing are her children, Olive (Marion) Handoga, Darlene (Louis) Fisette, Valerie Hill; her beloved granddaughter Tara-Lee (Ed) grandsons, Mark (Helene), Bradford (Jodi), Cory, Todd (Terry), Steven (Hali) and Dean (Cathy) great-grandchildren, Jordan, Chantal, Louis, Christina, Sarah, Jami, Michael, Leigh, Erik, Lauryn, Jenna and Hannah; one sister Reidun (Bill) Kaminsky; brothers, Alf (Evelyn), Norman and Lloyd (Agnes) sisters-in-law, Alice Toole and Betty (Bill) Longworth; many relatives in Norway, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends. Irene was born on May 2, 1922, in Vita, MB, spending her early years on the family farm in Zhoda. Irene made many parts of Manitoba her home, settling in Winnipeg in the 1940s. She was a dedicated employee of Winnipeg Transit for 33 years, retiring in 1986. Irene took great pleasure in gardening, dancing, cooking for family and friends and travelling. She was an avid sports fan as well, listening to Moose hockey into her final hours before passing. Irene was also very proud of her Norwegian heritage, being a member of the Scandinavian Cultural Centre, as well as having memberships and involvement at other community organizations in the Winnipeg area. The family would like to thank Dr. Pacin, Dr. Maxwell and the nursing staff on unit 4 of the Victoria General Hospital. Thank you to Ivy, Mandy and Ann for their in home care and compassionate hearts. A celebration of Irenes life will be held on Saturday, November 6, at 2:30 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St., with The Rev. Robert Brownlie officiating. Interment and reception to follow. Dear Nana, thank you for your love and devotion. We will miss you greatly and love you forever. In lieu of flowers, donations in Irenes memory may be made to the Victoria General Hospital Foundation. It breaks our hearts to lose you But you do not go alone For part of us went with you The day God called you home. Though your smile is gone forever And your hand we cannot touch, We will never lose the memory Of one we loved so much. Thanks for the loving years you gave us The happy times we shared We all pray that when you left us You knew how much we cared. Our family chain is broken And nothing seems the same But as God calls us one by one The chain will link again.
