MARION (nee SIGURDSON) RUSSELL It is with great sorrow, that after a lengthy illness on November 4, 2004, at the E.M. Crowe Memorial Hospital in Eriksdale, MB, with her family by her side, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law and friend, Marion Russell aged 79 years of Eriksdale, MB, formerly of Ashern, MB. Marion was the youngest of seven children born to Sigurdur and Joanna Sigurdson on July 22, 1925. Marion was a member of the school board for Deerhorn School. She played guitar and sang for dances as a young girl. She also played guitar for Christmas concerts for the Deerhorn School. Mom married Wilfred Russell on December 20, 1947, where they lived and farmed in the Deerhorn District. She was a cook for Tasker Construction and moved to Ashern, MB in 1974. Later she became a cook at the Lakeshore General Hospital until she retired in 1993 and moved to Winnipeg. Mom was an avid bingo player and loved knitting, playing cards and doing crossword puzzles. She loved to spoil her grandchildren with her cooking and baking and played many a card game. She especially loved to be surrounded by her family or just sharing a cup of coffee with her many friends and family. Moms Icelandic heritage was of great importance to her and which she was very proud of. Surviving are her five children, daughter Thelma (Doug), grandchildren, Brendon and Ashley Hogue; son Stan (Aline), grandchildren, Aaron and Kevin Russell; daughter Barbara (Greg), grandchildren, Colin, Darcie and Geoffrey Vince; daughter Linda (Earl), grandchildren, Darryl, Jay and Tammy Seymour; son Gary (Nadine), grandchildren, Candace and Cory Russell; six great-grandchildren, Miranda, Selena, Tia, Kylie, Sarah and Declan; along with numerous nieces, nephews and many good friends. She is predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Wilfred, in 1998; her mother and father; her sisters, Thora Austman, Sigga Thorlacius and Lena Halldorsson; brothers, Siggi, Jon and Leo Sigurdson. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 8 at the Grace Lutheran Church in Ashern, MB with Pastor Nancy Walker officiating. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service in the Church. Interment to follow in the Betel Churchyard Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Colin Vince, Geoff Vince, Darryl Seymour, Jay Seymour, Aaron Russell, Kevin Russell, Cory Russell and Brendon Hogue. Honorary pallbearers will be all her special friends and those in attendance that day. Special thanks to Dr. Tiedt and Dr. Styne, Eriksdale Hospital staff and the home care workers for all their love and care. Also, a special thanks to Sandy for always being there for all of us.
