PAUL MEERMANN Peacefully at the Grace General Hospital on Wednesday, November 3, 2004, Paul Meermann passed away after a lengthy illness. Paul was born on April 23, 1940 to Luise Brunger and Franz Meermann in Remscheid, Germany. Paul grew up in Post War Germany in Solingen, Burg until emigrating to Canada in 1960 at the age of 19. Paul lived in Hamilton, ON until 1964 when he moved to Winnipeg. In 1962, while on a North American road trip, Paul met his wife Christel Gradt, during a brief stop in Winnipeg. After their marriage in 1964 Paul and Christel moved back to Hamilton until 1965 when they moved to Germany, where their first child Kirsten was born in 1966. Paul and Christel returned to Winnipeg in 1967 where their second child, Kevin was born in 1971. Paul worked as a machinist, machine shop foreman and a production manager until illness required him to retire in 1998. He is survived by wife Christel; children, Kirsten (Dean), Kevin (Lisa) brother Klaus (Monika) nephew Volker (Maja) cousins, Edith (Joe) and their children, Ralph (Linda), Andrew (Linda), Michael (Lucia) and John (Jackie). Paul lived at Heritage Lodge Personal Care Home for the last two years. The family wishes to thank all the staff for their compassion and understanding. Special thanks to the recreation department and volunteers for always including him. Pauls last days were on 3 North at the Grace General Hospital. Thanks to the medical staff for making his final days peaceful. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 9 at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave., (entrance on Aubrey Street) at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to Heritage Lodge Personal Care Home, 3555 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, R3K 0X2 or to the Grace General Hospital, 300 Booth Dr., Winnipeg, R3J 3M7.
