Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryISABEL MARTIN RUTHERFORD (nee ARMSTRONG) On Monday, November 8, 2004, with her daughter Allison by her side, Isabel passed away peacefully at Fred Douglas Lodge, going to be with her Lord. She is now in heaven with her husband Gordon, who predeceased her in 1992, her dear sister Mary Wilson (1987) and other close relatives and friends who have gone on before her. Isabel was born on October 3, 1917, in Lyall, Manitoba, to Richard and Isobelle Armstrong. She lived the greatest part of her life in Winnipeg, attending Cecil Rhodes and Daniel McIntyre schools. She married Gordon on July 16, 1948 and subsequently had a daughter Allison. Isabel worked most of her life as a secretary, enjoying her last job in the grain industry the best. She was a good, kind and honest lady with a good sense of humour, loved by all who met her. She always tried to see the best in people. She loved to read, loved her sweets, enjoyed drives in the country with Gordon and then later with her daughter Allison and son-in-law Dan Donnelly. She also loved her visits with her childhood and very good friend Lily Robinson. Isabels sewing skills were second to none, and she had the most beautiful handwriting. She also used to enjoy the yearly family holidays to the States and visits out west to our relatives in Alberta. She was a great mother. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She met lifes trials with grace and compassion. Many thanks to the staff at Fred Douglas Lodge who have taken such good care of her during the last few years and whose care and support were of great comfort during the final hours of her life. Lorraine, I am sure you will miss your secretary. Thanks also to my mother-in-law, Gerry Donnelly, without whose help and support, this difficult time would have been that much more unbearable. Be At Peace Be at Peace. Do not look forward in fear to the changes of life; Rather look to them with full hope as they arise. God, whose very own you are, will deliver you from out of them. He has kept you hitherto, and He will lead you safely through all things; And when you cannot stand it, God will bury you in His arms. St. Francis A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 15, 2004 at NBI Crematorium, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue, (across from Brookside Cemetery) at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fred Douglas Society Inc., 1275 Burrows Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R2X 0B8 or to the Heart and Foundation, 200 - 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
