Belle and Harry Shklov were our neighbours, across the lane, when I was a boy. They were hard working couple who owned the Union Supply store on the corner of Edwards Avenue and 3rd Street in The Pas Manitoba. They, later, moved to the Uptown Mall and renamed their store to Union Fashions. They gave me my first job when I was about 7 years old, 1963. My pay was either $5.00 a month if it snowed a lot or $1.00 a week if it didn't. LoL. That was good money back then. I, also, took care of Harry's mother's place. She was such a wonderful old lady. I think her name was Rose. I used to shovel her sidewalk, mow and rake her lawn, take care of her flower beds until I was about 13 years old. She was like another Grandmother to me. After each shoveling or mowing or raking, she paid cash, but as I got older, I refused to take money from her. She always made cookies and tea for me. Good memories! Many memories. - Posted by: Dale Popika (Neighbours ) on: Oct 13, 2018
