Hilda was born in Windygates, MB on June 28, 1913 to Albert and Jane (Smith) Scaife. She was predeceased by her husband, Hamson; son, Jack; brothers and sister, Franklin (in infancy), Tom (Velma), Janet (Ike) Keown, George, Chester; brothers-in law and sisters-in-law, Irene and Fred Redpath, Harry Alcock, Alf, Hazel and Ed Campbell, Roy and Winnie; nephews Frank and Doug Keown, Frank Redpath; and niece Margery (Redpath) Clayton. Remembered by son David and Marilyn, son Nelson and Barb, daughter Janice and Bill Borlase, son Philip and Janet; grandchildren, Doug (Donna), Brenda (Greg) Stewart, Myron (Myrna), Brian (Sherry), Curtis, Scott (Brandy), Shauna (Rick NcCorchuk), Patrick (Sharon), Bryan Borlase, Joshua, Jonathon, Amy, Andrea, Karen (Larry) Isham and Marcelle; and great grandchildren, Derek, Karena, Stephanie, Danny, Kara (friend Nick), Darcy, Trevor, Morgan, Jenna, Shelby, Hayley, Carter, Dallas, Chase, Jennifer, James, Julie, Haydon, Evan, Taylor, Kyle; sisters-in-law, Margery Alcock and Eva Lees; special friend Elsie Turner. Also numerous nephews, nieces and friends. In the early years, Hilda lived in several communities, Windygates, Gladstone and Mowbray, moving to Morden to take her Grade 12. In 1932, the family moved to Mather, where she met and married Hamson Lees on January 17, 1936. They raised the five children, teaching them how to milk cows at young ages and to do other chores on the farm and in the house. Hilda was a 4-H leader for many years, teaching many of the children in the community how to sew, knit and crochet. She made many articles of clothing, knit many sweaters and crocheted many afghans, baby blankets and bonnets for grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. Hildas greatest treasures were her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved them all in a special way. Some of them learned to sew, knit or crochet, when they spent time with their Nana. In 1985, when her youngest son married, she moved to Pilot Mound, MB where she lived the rest of her years. Service was held in St. Andrews United Church, Mather, MB on November 5, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. Flowers gratefully declined.
