MAX SHINDELMAN Max Shindelman passed away on Monday, October 25, 2004 at the age of 92. Max enjoyed his life. He considered himself lucky. Max was born the eldest son in a large family of seven children. In the 1930s he studied Engineering at the University of Manitoba. His studies were cut short by the harsh realities of the Depression and he followed his father into the the cattle and fur buying business. After the War, having enjoyed his single life, Max decided that it was time to settle down. He proceeded to marry the woman who would always bring a sparkle to his eyes. Soon after they were married, Nellie and Max moved to Medicine Hat Alberta, where Max continued to buy cattle while becoming a partner in Raber Department Store. Max and Nellie were pillars of the vibrant Medicine Hat community. Upon retirement, Max and Nellie returned to Winnipeg hoping to become an integral part of the lives of their two young grandchildren. And they were. Max will be sadly missed but warmly remembered by his daughter Brenda and her husband Murray, by his grandchildren Mark, Michael and Michaels wife Tammy. his brother Jack, sister Elsie, nephews and nieces, and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. Sadly, Max was predeceased by Nellie in 1997, by his parents, by his brother Eddie, and sisters, Clara, Sophie and Gladys. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, October 27 at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue, internment at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery. Pallbearers were his nephews Sandy and Robert Shindleman, and friends Paul Shuckett, Ian Kay, Bernard Rubinstein and Sid Rabinovitch. If desired, contributions can be made in Maxs memory to the Max and Nellie Shindelman Fund at the Jewish Foundation.
