RENA GOERTZEN (nee TYMINSKI) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rena Goertzen, after a brief illness, on November 15, 2004 at the Health Sciences Centre. She leaves to mourn husband Jake; daughters, Sandi Goertzen, Tracie Goertzen; sister Helen Proksz (Joe) numerous close friends, and of course Myers. She was predeceased by her parents, George and Antonia Tyminski. Rena was born July 9, 1947 in Germany. The family immigrated to Canada two years later and settled in Carman, MB. She attended Carman Collegiate where she was an excellent student, editor of the yearbook and enjoyed figure skating, ice hockey and softball. After graduation she moved to Winnipeg and shared her first apartment with close friend Diana Desautels-Clark and got a job working for the provincial government. In 1966 she married her high school sweetheart Jake. They were thrilled to welcome their first daughter Sandi and four years later daughter Tracie was born. Family was always very important to Rena and she devoted the next seven years to making a happy home. She enjoyed being a homemaker and she always made sure everyone was gathered together for special occasions. She returned to the workforce in 1977 and retired in 1991. Retirement proved to be a very busy and happy time for Rena. She enjoyed her crafts and spent many wonderful days relaxing at their trailer at West Hawk Lake. She also realized a lifelong dream in 1997 when she visited Graceland with her daughter Tracie. Another thrill was a trip to Las Vegas with her sister Helen, and a couple of trips, with the whole family, to Fort Myers, FL. The family would like to send their sincere thanks and appreciation to Dr. Sidowski and Alex at the River East Access Centre, and the staff of the MICU at Health Sciences Centre for their care and compassion during this difficult time. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 19 at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Hwy. If friends and family wish to honour Renas memory, donations can be made to the Health Sciences Centre Foundation, MS7-820 Sherbrook St., R3A 9Z9.
