ADDIE ANNA MURPHY (FILAX) 1914 - 2004 Peacefully on November 14, 2004, Addie Murphy died at Deer Lodge Hospital. Addie will be missed and lovingly remembered by her son Patrick (Sandi) and their sons, Craig (Lori Morrell) and Kirk (Leah Mutz) of New Hampshire, USA and by her daughter Lynda (Charlie de Laroque) and their children, Eddie (Kim), Donnie (Trish Voth) and Cathy. She was very proud of her four great grands Dylan, Austin, Ciarra and Brady. She is also survived by sister Elda Reid of Petersburg, Alaska and brother Hugo Filax of Grand Island, New York, numerous sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. Addie was predeceased by her husband Harry; granddaughter Julie, her parents; brothers, George, Art, Alvin and Otto; sisters, Bertha, Blanche and Muriel and several brothers and sisters-in-law. Addie was born September 1, 1914 to John and Alice Filax of Broadacres, SK. She was one of ten children. She came to Winnipeg in the 30s for training at the "General Hospital" and graduated as a RN in 1938. She nursed at the Municipal Hospital and the Margaret Scott Mission. Addie married Harry Murphy in 1941 and together they farmed and raised their family in the Gordon / Grosse Isle area. In later years, Mom resided in Winnipeg and most recently at the Kiwanis Cottages on Sinawik Bay. She enjoyed tending her small garden and socializing with all the friends she made there. Mom was a longtime member of Mount Lildon WI and always enjoyed time spent with them. In earlier years, she was a 4-H leader, curler and a bowler. Gardening, baking, making jam, knitting and needlework gave her many pleasurable hours. Mom also loved playing cards. She really appreciated the letters and phone chats with her longtime friend, Jean and phone chats and crib games with Ernest. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 20 at 11:00 a.m. at Mackenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or to the charity of your choice. Mackenzie Funeral Home Stonewall in care of arrangements.
