Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMABEL SMITH May 23, 1921 - November 13, 2004 With her family at her side, peacefully, Mabels spirit departed this life to be with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. "Thou gone from our sight but briefly, till we meet again." Mabel was born May 23, 1921 in Fort William, (Thunder Bay), ON; pioneer of Slate River Valley, sang in the United Church choir in Fort William; worked at Canada Car. During the Second World War, was in the Fort William Military Band, served in the Canadian Womens Army Corp, CWAC, Signal Corp. Fort Osborne Barracks, Winnipeg. From Dominion Business College she worked at Hudsons Bay Fur, Ashdowns and in teletype at Trans Canada Air until 1953. She married Archie Dawson Smith and they settled in St. James (Winnipeg). In the early 1960s she taught Sunday School at Britannia School and St. James Anglican Church. She enjoyed gardening, natures beauty, dancing, bowling, letter writing, knitting, reading, especially Agatha Christie, and flower-pressing-designing many beautiful cards. Her senior life was greatly enriched by the fellowship of "The Sunshine Girls" in Day Club. Mabel revered God and was thankful for His blessings and mercies. Predeceased by her father Walter Caunce, stepfather Robert Baker Kirk, mother Jessie Maude (nee Manifold, died 1989), sister Mina Caunce, and Mabels devoted husband Archie (died October 18, 2001). Mabel is survived by children, Elaine Mabel (Gordon Gilbey), Archie Robert Norman (Daphne), Alice Elizabeth, Donna Marlene (Andre Comte) and grand-children, Joshua, Sarah; Juliette and Katrianna; brother James Henry (Harry) and Barb Kirk of Thunder Bay; nieces and nephews, Terry (Anita) Robert, Debbie (David Restoule), Melanie (Art McDonald), Stephen Caunce, their families and extended family, Jim Farnsworth (Mavis), Mayvise (Will Salo) and Smiths, Aunt Irene Rowlin, Aunt Ann; and relatives in Canada, United States, England and Australia. Honourary grandma to Kaitlin and Tanika, children of Fernilee and Stan Born. Friends, Joan Patton, Lil Zirk (deceased), Marguerite Heuft. Many thanks to Margo, Corene, Analou, Carlos and her many caregivers. Mabel will be missed. "Her children arise up and call her blessed" Proverbs 31. Gordon G.
