VILBORG SIGRIDUR HOLM Peacefully on November 15, 2004 at Tudor House in Selkirk, Vibba passed away at the age of 87. Leaving to mourn her passing are her sons, Clifford (Lilja) Holm of Arborg and their children, Blair (Joe) of Toronto, Paul (Maureen) of Calgary and Susan (Dwayne) of Gimli; Bruce (Claudette) of Las Vegas and their children, Darwin (Tanya) of Edmonton, Darcy of Edmonton and Danial of Edmonton; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Signy, Ryan, Haley, Dylan, Jayden and April; her brother Mundi Magnusson (Phyllis) and their children, Roy (Alice), Alice (Dave) and Henry (Bobby), all of California; sister Jacobina (B) Henderson and her children, Larry (Donna) and Dale of California; her niece Carol Jensson (Ken) of Vancouver; her special (summer son) Leonard Holm (Shirley) of Kleefeld, MB; sister-in-law Olga Johannesson and brother-in-law Steinthor Holm (Marge) her dear friend/cousin Kay Harasym (Mike) as well as numerous great-nieces and nephews, cousins and countless friends. Vibba maintained close ties with her California family and always passed on the latest news from them to the rest of the family. Predeceased by her parents, Gudbergur and Gudrun Magnusson; her husband Wilfrid in 1985; sister Freda Jensson in 1990; brothers-in-law, David Jensson, Ragnar Holm, Johannes Palsson and Thorberg Johannesson. Vibba was born on October 26, 1917 in Vidir, MB where she resided until six months ago when she was admitted to Tudor House in Selkirk, MB. Vibba and Wilfrid were married in 1939. As everyone who knew her can attest to, she had an amazing sense of humor, was an avid ready and loved political arguments. She enjoyed her grandchildren and bragged about them constantly. They all have countless memories of her and will treasure most of them forever. They spent a lot of time with Amma and Afi and gleaned from them many life lessons. When her grandchildren grew up and moved away she still felt the need to have children around her and developed a special relationship with her neighbours (the Fosters) children, and lovingly referred to them as her Foster children. Later her neighbours, the Pletts (Henry and Vivian) and the Reimers (Tim and Alvina) became very involved in her life and she adored their children who helped her out with numerous household and yard chores. Her photo albums are filled with pictures she took of all these special children as well as any other kids who entered her house. Everyone had to pick up her little dog The Princess and pose for a picture. The highlight of her life was becoming a great-grandmother (Amma Amma) as they call her. She was so proud of all of them. Unfortunately she had never met Jayden (Darwin and Tanyas youngest) but she spoke of him as if she knew him. The light of her life since June 2004 had been her little April Lee. No matter how ill and frail she was becoming she would hold out her arms as soon as we came into the room with her and wanted to hold her right beside her in the bed. These were special moments for all of us, especially Susan who will pass on to April all the Vibba stories. Vibba had a true love of nature, especially anything she could grow. She would spend most of the late winters going through seed catalogues and waiting for her first spring trip to Friedas Flowers. She was keenly interested in growing herbs, researching their medicinal qualities and using them in her favourite dishes. She was a very good cook and taught us many tricks and short-cuts. Vibba and Wilfrid enjoyed visiting friends and neighbours and having a lively game of bridge. In the early 90s Vibba volunteered with the Adult Day Program and enjoyed cooking, playing cards and generally helping out with old people as she used to say, even though she was the same age as many of them. Vibba, Ragna, Dagmar and Bessie were affectionately known as the Golden Girls and enjoyed having their regular visits. Addi Foster, Thruda Floyd and Gudny Erlendson who where her closest neighbours maintained their friendships with her throughout her life as well as others too numerous to mention. We would like to express our appreciation to all those who made is possible for Vibba to remain in her home which she never wanted to leave. As well we wish to thank the wonderful, caring and truly compassionate staff at Tudor House in Selkirk, the doctors at Selkirk General Hospital as well as the Arborg doctors and staff during her previous admissions to hospital. A memorial service will be held at the Vidir Hall on Saturday, December 4 at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Trudy Thorarinson officiating. Donations may to made to Riverdale Place Homes, Arborg, MB.
