CONSTANCE MAY VINCENT (CONNIE) It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Connie Vincent. After a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer, Mum passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 18, 2004, at the Riverview Health Centre. Connie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who leaves to mourn her husband of almost 65 years, Michael. She will be greatly missed by her children, Sally (Carla), Rick (Fran) and John (Carol) grandchildren, Alexandra (Aaron), James (Ronagh), Charlotte (Patrick), as well as Simon and Anna in England; two great-grandchildren Owen and McKinley. She also leaves to mourn, her beloved sister and best friend, Gwen (Ken), her nephew, Tony and her niece, Liz (Bill). Connie was a devout catholic whose faith sustained her through difficult and painful times in her life. Her favourite leisure activity was solving crossword puzzles, and she was a voracious reader who gifted her children and grandchildren with a love of books. She enjoyed poetry, especially the works of Rupert Brooke - and, yes Mum, there is "honey still for tea"! Her family was the centre of her universe. Her pride in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren knew no bounds. She happily sat through her grandchildrens countless Christmas concerts and recitals and she was an enthusiastic supporter at their various athletic events. Connie was overjoyed when her two great-grandchildren were born and, when she held Owen and McKinley for the first time, her heart overflowed; her world was complete. Our family would like to thank the medical and nursing staff on East-3 at the Riverview Health Centre for their compassion, and for the care they gave Mum; we would also like to thank Mum?s Home Care nurse (Louise D.) for being so respectful of Mums wishes; and Leanne from the Winnipeg Public Library for ensuring Mum always had a supply of books for a good read. Connie rarely complained of the pain she suffered, and she died with the same quiet dignity with which she lived her life. She was a good and gentle person who walked softly on this earth, and her step will be missed by all who knew her. Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 23 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Chapel, 2235 Silver Ave. Connie would be pleased if, instead of flowers, a donation be made to a charity of your choosing.
