MARY ZAHARA 1923 - 2004 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Mary Zahara on November 19 at the Vita and District Health Centre. Mary was born on August 26, 1923 at Tolstoi, MB to Prokop and Nellie Todoruk. She was predeceased by her parents; her sister Sally Gawron and brother Michael Todoruk. Mom was devoted to her family and homestead. Despite her failing health, she protected and cared for her husband and two youngest sons until the day of her passing. Visitors, expected or not, could always count on a luncheon of cheese, sausage, rye bread and her famous pickles. Mom took pride in her cooking; her holubchi, perogies, borscht, canned beets and dills were always family favourites! In addition to cooking, Mom loved working in her garden, playing "hola", and taking day trips with her husband and friends to the Shooting Star and Club Regent. Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 61 years Mike; her only daughter Eva (Ed) sons, Gord (Suzanne), Don (Brenda), Eddy and Allan; grandchildren, Cindy, Charlene (Dan), Ryan, Jason, Bev (Chris), Aaron, Adrian, Aviree; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Hayley. Mom was looking forward to the arrival of her third great-grandchild in December. Prayers will be held on Tuesday, November 23 at 7:00 p.m. at Steinbach Funeral Home (formerly Loewen), 5 Chrysler Gate. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 24 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michaels Greek Orthodox Church in Gardenton, MB, Fr. Miron Pozniak officiating. Interment to follow in the Ukrainian Historical Cemetery in Gardenton. There will be a gathering of family and friends after each service.
