Offer Condolences or MemoryCORNELIA "CORRIE" GILLIS (nee GRIFT) Peacefully with family by her side, Cornelia "Corrie" Gillis (nee Grift), passed away at the Baldur Personal Care Home on Saturday, November 20, 2004, at the age of 92 years. Cornelia leaves to mourn her passing her loving family, daughter Joan (Odoric) Beaulieu of Grande Prairie, AB; son Harold (Georgette) Gillis of Nanaimo, BC; son Raymond (Noreen) Gillis of Baldur, MB; daughter Mary (Emile) Decosse of Grandview, MB; and son Leonard (Cecile) Gillis of Baldur, MB; 18 grandchildren, Laurent (Karen) Beaulieu, Christine (Brad) Vall, Ronald (Eileen) Beaulieu, Denis Beaulieu, Shelli Gillis, Michael (Angela) Gillis, Teresa (Barry) Hoover, Michelle (Jack) Somerville, Christopher (Terry) Gillis, Brent (Karen) Gillis, Karen (Jamie) Allen, Steven Decosse, Julie-Ann (Steven) Taylor, Richard Decosse, Kevin Gillis, Robert Gillis, Jonathan (MaryAnn) Gillis and Steven Gillis; 20 great-grandchildren, Laura, Jennifer, Jocelyn and Joel Beaulieu; Jacinna, Thomas and Lisa Vall; Chelsea, Rachel and Ian Beaulieu; Tyler Barre; Rachel Somerville; Shayla and James Gillis; Natalie, Hailey and Vanessa Allen; Brendan Decosse; Nathan and Anna Taylor. She is also survived by sisters, Greta Verniest of Holland, MB and Gertie DeBacker of Swan Lake, MB and brothers, Gerald (Laura) Grift and Dave Grift of Holland, MB and by sister-in-law Rosella Grift of Holland, MB and brothers-in-law, Jerome Verniest of Holland, MB and Stan Gillis of Carman, MB. Cornelia was predeceased by her husband John in 1983; sisters, Mary Claeys and Katherine Verniest and by a brother Jack Grift; also by brothers-in-law, Gerard Claeys, Henri Verniest, Fred DeBacker, Tony Gillis, Alphonse Gillis and sisters-in-law, Madeleine Gillis, Martha Gillis and Georgina Gillis. Cornelia was the oldest daughter of Evert and Johanna Grift. She was born on January 15, 1912 at Bruxelles, MB. Cornelia married John Gillis on November 21, 1940. They settled on the farm at Altamont, MB where they started their family. In 1946, they moved to a farm south of Baldur, MB, where they continued to raise their family. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. In later years, they retired to the town of Baldur, MB. Cornelia became a resident of the Baldur Personal Care Home in January of 1993. The family wish to express their sincere appreciation and thanks to all the staff at the Baldur Personal Care Home and at the Baldur Hospital for all the excellent care and kindness shown to our mother over the years. May God bless you all! Prayers were held on Wednesday evening, November 24 at 7:30 p.m. in the Willmor Chapel, 415 Broadway St., Glenboro, MB. Mass of the Christian Burial took place on Thursday, November 25 at 2:00 p.m. in the St. James Catholic Church, Baldur, MB with Father E. Samson as celebrant. Interment followed in the Baldur Cemetery. All present may consider themselves honorary pallbearers.
