OLIVE MARY WILLIAMS Peacefully on November 24, 2004 at Seven Oaks General Hospital, Olive Williams joined the Lord in eternal peace. Beloved mother of daughter Christine Patrick and son Kerry Williams; Olive leaves to mourn many family members who will miss her wonderful smile, generosity of spirit and love of life; son-in law Michael Patrick; sisters-in-law, Helen Williams and Catherine Watts; niece Cathy McInnes and husband Bob; and many nieces and nephews, grand, and great-grand. Niece Pamela Williams (nee Hobkirk) deserves special recognition for her faithful support of Olive not only during her illness but for many years preceding. Olive was predeceased in 1998 by her loving husband of 54 years, John (Jack) Williams and many special loved ones; mother Ethel Dunn; sister-in-law Margaret (Peggy) Hobkirk and brother-in-law Robert (Bob) Williams; daughter-in-law Linda Williams; and favourite aunt, Ivy Webb of London, England. Olive was born in London, England on October 15, 1922. She served in the British Airforce Womens Corps during the Second World War and during that time met Jack. They were married in London on June 3, 1944. Olive travelled across to Canada as a war bride, disembarking at Halifax in 1946 and journeyed by rail with Christine to Winnipeg where they were met by Jack and his family and friends. She never left Jacks side for over 50 years. Jack and Olive settled in Charleswood and in 1951 were blessed with the arrival of their son Kerry. They raised their family in Charleswood until moving to St. James in 1975. In the early 1960s they built a cottage in Victoria Beach which became a second home where they enjoyed many fun-filled days with family and friends. Olive was known for her love of entertaining and wonderful cooking. Olive was active in several venues outside the home. She was a past member of IODE, docent at the Winnipeg Museum of Man and Nature, and volunteered at Oakview Place and Grace General Hospital. She acquired a certificate in geriatrics from RRCC and subsequently worked at Oakview Place where she oversaw the care of her mother, Ethel and made many new friends. In their retirement years Olive and Jack became actively associated with the Ness Avenue Baptist Church which became a focal point of their lives. Both worked for many years with the church Food Bank, a source of great spirit and volunteerism to them. Olive enjoyed travelling and enjoyed many trips to England, Hawaii, B.C. and other points in Canada and to California to visit Christine and Michael and in-laws Pat and Carmen Patrick of Coarsegold, CA. The family would like to extend special thanks to the many wonderful friends in Olives life: Kay Ramsey (her soul-sister), Derek Mayes, Betty Poulain, Betty McNutt, Heather Dyregrov and numerous caring, thoughtful friends from the church whose friendship she cherished. The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Olives superb physician, Dr. Jamie Boyd, also Dr. Mark Kristjanson, Dr. John Moncek and to caring staff of Seven Oaks General Hospital on 5 Unit 1 and 2; to Pastor Robert Shepansky for his spiritual guidance and support to Olive, comforting presence to Christine and Kerry and prayers at the bedside. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 27 at Ness Avenue Baptist Church, 2700 Ness Ave. at 10:00 a.m. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made in Olives name to Ness Avenue Baptist Church, 2700 Ness Ave. Winnipeg, MB.
