MARTIN HARRISON Born near Sundre, Alberta, February 3, 1917, died November 25, 2004 at Riverview Health Centre with the blessing of his loving family at his side. Marty was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Ruby (Goldsmith) in 2003; his brothers, Earl and Allan; sister-in-law Calista Spencer; brothers-in-law, Wally Shillington and Earl Spencer and his granddaughter Bonnie Hughes. He is survived by his three children, Carol (Pat) Hughes, Betty (Doug) Broadhurst and Garth (Margaret) nine grandchildren, Daniel, Michael, Tracy, Vivian, Richard, Valerie, Miles, Marc and Krista; seven great-grandchildren, Joshua, Bonnie, Michael, Emma, Sara, Sydney and Mackenzie; sister Donna Shillington; sisters-in-law, Stella Harrison and Joy Fauth and special niece Beth and great-niece Calista Spencer. Dad grew up on a beautiful orchard in Carnduff, SK, married Ruby in 1941 and moved to Winnipeg in 1950. He was interested in and always accepted new technology. Some of the fond memories he had were of the first radio in their home and how excited everyone was, giving up the team of horses for a new tractor, the new era of cars and airplanes and finally his great love - computers. Dad spent years writing programs first at his place of work as Treasurer of Co-op Implements Ltd. and after retirement, developing his genealogy program "Roots and Relatives". Dad never went into anything in a small way. When he got interested in ceramics, with Moms help, he built a studio in their basement. They taught classes using film media, poured their own moulds and fired everything they created in their two kilns. Although he had many interests, his greatest love was his family. He was a devoted husband and only wanted to live a day longer than Ruby who needed special care. His children and their children were the focus of his life. He was a dependable, kind, generous and loving man. A memorial service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 30 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (south of the Royal Canadian Mint). A gathering of family and friends will follow in the reception centre. The family wishes to thank the wonderful caregivers at Riverview Health Centre. Their response to Dads insistence on hugs and kisses stands as an example of true palliative care. We also express thank you to all who visited and telephoned giving their support to Dad and the family during the last few months. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. 982-7550
