GERALD N. WHITE Peacefully, with his family at his side on Thursday, November 25, 2004 at the Seven Oaks Hospital. Gerald passed away at the age of 86 years. Left to cherish his memory is his best friend and wife of 49 years, Sophie; son Allan (Dianna) daughter Bonnie (Ray) Tremain; grandchildren, Jonathan, Ian, Geoffrey (Justina), Cristine (Richard) and Robert; three great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Polly, Helen, Rose and their families; his lifelong friend, Art Jackson. Predeceased by his father Millan; mother Grace and grandson Douglas Hammill. Gerald was born in St. John, NB on May 7, 1918. His family moved to Winnipeg in 1924. Gerald enlisted in 1940 and served overseas to 1945 with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles, who became a part of his life and provided friendship and support. Gerald met the love of his life, Sophie in July 1952 and they were married on February 5, 1955. Together they spent time in England before returning to Canada and settling in Toronto in 1960. Upon retirement in 1989, Gerald and Sophie moved back to Winnipeg. Gerald enjoyed travel, music, dancing, poetry and hockey (especially his beloved Maple Leafs). As an author he published poetry and short stories and contributed regularly to the Winnipeg Rifles "Devils Blast" publication. Gerald will be missed by all, especially his grandsons, Jonathan and Ian. A funeral service will be held at Glen Eden Funeral Home, on Tuesday, November 30 at 10:00 a.m. Interment and reception to follow. Flowers gratefully declined, if declined, donations may be made to the Heart and Stoke Foundation of Manitoba or to CancerCare Manitoba.
