RUTH JUNE HAMER (nee HUBER) February 15, 1944 - November 27, 2004 On November 27, 2004, Ruth Hamer, loving mother, loyal friend, devoted caregiver, earned her freedom. Following a brief illness, Ruth passed away at Victoria General Hospital. Ruth will be missed by her beloved daughter Carlee (Stephen) sister Gail (Stan) nieces, Corinne (Duane) and Janice (Cory). She was predeceased by her first husband Steve Yemec; and her loving parents George and Josephine. Ruth was a warm, open, genuine, kind, glowing person who was always enthusiastic and positive about life. She was caring, and an inspiration to all. Ruths life centred around her much-loved daughter Carlee. She loved her work, her garden, her two cats Fritz and Kia, and painting beautiful watercolours. She was a fine friend to many. Ruth was a graduate of New Careers Program and was employed for 11 years at the Canadian Mental Health Association, Winnipeg Region, working mostly as a mental health advocate. She was also a trainer in their Personal Empowerment Program. She brought to her work professionalism, practicality, a love for people, and deep compassion. Her work made a positive contribution to the lives of thousands of people. Ruths beautiful spirit will surround us and remain in our hearts, inspiring us and accompanying us throughout our lives. Ruth succeeded in living by a motto she always believed in: "Do onto others as you would have others do onto you." A celebration of Ruths life will be held on Friday, December 3 at 11:00 a.m. in the Holy Family Church, 778 Archibald St. Special thanks to friends, family and the palliative care staff at the Victoria Hospital who stood by us day and night.
