Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDR. RODNEY J. SAWATSKY 1943 - 2004 It is with deep sadness that our family announces the death of Dr. Rodney James Sawatsky on November 27, 2004. Rod died at home in Waterloo, ON at the age of 60, in our loving care after a courageous struggle with brain cancer. Beloved and devoted husband of Lorna (Ewert) cherished father of Tanya of Waterloo, Lisa and Katherine both of Toronto. Countless friends and family join us in celebrating Rods life and his gift of friendship to them. Rod was born on December 4, 1943 in Altona, MB. He graduated from Canadian Mennonite Bible College and Betel College, Kansas before earning graduate degrees at the University of Minnesota (MA in History) and Princeton University (MA and PhD in Religion). Rod and Lorna were married in 1964 and were privileged to share 40 wonderful years together. Rods career and life-long passion was education within the Christian college environment. He taught in Didsbury, AB and at Canadian Mennonite Bible College before moving to Conrad Grebel College, University of Waterloo, in 1974. In 1989, Rod became president of Conrad Grebel College, a position he held for five years. Rod was appointed president of Messiah College in Grantham, PA in 1994 and Rod and Lorna returned to Waterloo in June of this year to be near family and friends. A celebration of Rods life will be held on Wednesday, December 1 at 11:00 a.m. at First United Church, Waterloo. In recognition of Rods strong commitment to the church the family invites donations in his name to Mennonite Central Committee and can be arranged through the Edward R.
