VERA FRANCES HARRIS ("BOBBI") It is with deep regret that we announce the passing on November 30, 2004 of Bobbi Harris, aged 84 years quietly at her home in Calgary, AB. Bobbi was born in London, England in 1920. She joined the British forces during the Second World War and spent six years in the Allied occupation forces in Germany. After the war with husband Bryan and daughter Lindsey she spent many years in Oxford and Coleshill, England until their immigration to Canada in 1964. Bobbi was a celebrated Restaurant Manager and chef in Winnipeg for the balance of her working life. In 1998 she moved to Calgary with husband Bryan to be closer to her daughter Lindsey. Bobbi will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Left to cherish her memory, her husband of 52 years Bryan Harris; daughter and best friend Lindsey Pfeifer and son-in-law Kim Pfeifer of Calgary, AB. Bobbi was predeceased by her sister Doris of Reigate, Surrey, England in 2000. In November of 2003 Bobbi was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrigs disease). Other dear friends, caregivers and pooches; Antonietta Terrigno (whose strained soups and Tiramisu confounded this insidious disease and fed Bobbi in her latter months), Daryl, Wendy, Edith Anderson, Brenda, Cheese Cake and Sparky will sadly miss her passing. Never to be beaten Bobbi exercised regularly both prior and after her diagnosis at the Bow Valley Club where she was the oldest womens member. In aid of helping others with ALS Bobbi wrote several articles for the ALS Society on "Personal Determination," the role and importance of "Kind People" she met in her life, the "Celtic Queen Boudicca", whose chariot and courage she associated with her wheelchair and her own fight with ALS and "Fax Machines" which allowed her to communicate with others even though she had lost her ability to speak. Bobbi participated in this years "Bettys Run for ALS" with several of her family, friends, and newly found ALS friends (Chris) in attendance. This feisty little lady from London spent many hours with her friends and family and always brought a little cheer to everyone she touched in her many travels around and about downtown Calgary. The family wishes to acknowledge all the wonderful people from the ALS Society and the Calgary Health Region who helped with the fight. In accordance with her wishes she will be cremated and there will not be a formal funeral service. A farewell reception (by invitation only) in Bobbis honour will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 5, at the Osteria de Medici restaurant in Kensington. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Just heard about your loss. Did not know her well but, in reading her obituary, it does not surprise me that she was the wonderful woman it describes. Her inspiring story deserves wider publicity -- The Globe and Mail has such a column, the writer of her obituary would obviously do it justice there. The words for people with ALS and the similarly afflicted would be very helpful. You deserved a good wife, Bryan, and you had one. - Posted by: Peter Warner (Acquaintance) on: Jan 17, 2005
