She worked as a nurse and midwife in Scotland, Bermuda and Canada. She immigrated to Canada in December 1970. Currently Joan was working as a Community Health Nurse in First Nation Communities around Kenora, ON for Health Canada. On November 28, 2004 Joan passed away in Lake of the Woods District Hospital in Kenora, ON. Memorial services for Joan will be held on Friday, December 3 at 11:00 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Centre.
