ALVIN FRANCIS SHILLINGFORD October 7, 1938 - December 1, 2004 In the early hours of the morning, on December 1, 2004 Alvin Shillingford left us to join his beloved wife Kathryn Markoff. His son Tony was at his side. Alvin was greatly loved and will be deeply missed by his children, Darcy, Desiree, Tony Anya and CherylAnn. Alvin will be forever cherished by his mother Valentin of Dominca; sisters, Clem, Eugenia, June and Rosemary; brothers, Jaques and Franklin. He will be lovingly remembered by his lifelong friend and cousin, Albert Einstein Shillingford, and his dear and treasured friend Jaqueline. Alvin was truly humbled by the care he lovingly received by so many family members during the difficult stages of his illness. He was especially grateful to Noella, Ricardo and David whose tender ministrations eased the journey. Alvin held a special place in the hearts of the Markoff family who join with the Shillingfords in celebrating a life well-lived. Alvin was born on the island of Dominica in 1938. He lived in Dominica until the age of 25 when he came to Canada to attend university in Montreal. By working full time and going to school at night Alvin obtained his B.Sc in Civil Engineering and went on to work for the C.N. for many years, retiring in Edmonton in 1992. Alvin was an avid golfer, a lover of good books and good food. His culinary skills were well known among family members, in particular his famous Sunday brunches. Although Alvin enjoyed a variety of pursuits and was highly skilled in many areas his love and his focus remained his family. To that end he set a standard of responsibility, commitment and love that will continue to flourish for many generations. On Saturday, December 4 at 10.00 a.m. friends and family will come together to honour the life of this good man and to laugh with those who loved him. A memorial service will be held for Alvin Shillingford in the chapel of Harmony Funeral services at 10541-81st Ave., Edmonton, AB. Details to be announced at the service. Alvin supported a number of charitable organizations. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to Compassion House, Pilgrims Hospice, Amnesty International or the SPCA.
