GUDRUN MARTIN Gudrun Martin passed away peacefully on December 2, 2004 at the Gimli Community Health Centre. Gudrun was born in Hnausa, MB on September 5, 1913. She was predeceased by her husband Gunnlaugur (Gunsi) in 1996 and daughter Gladys in 1935; her parents Olof and Gisli Sigmundson; siblings, Jonina, Fjola, Marino, Daniel and Frederick; and grand-daughter Debbie. She is also survived by her children, Don (Benna), June (Zeke), Leonard (Dorothy), and Brian (Brenda) 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren, she is also survived by her sister Sigrun Hjorleifson. Gudruns first job as a young girl was clerking in her fathers store in Hnausa. She married her childhood sweetheart Gunnlaugur on May 23, 1931. They started off their married life in Hnausa, later moving to Winnipeg and then to Gimli. Mother worked in florist shops in Winnipeg and in Gimli, and also worked at the Betel Home in Gimli for some time caring for the elderly which she found very fulfilling. She and Dad enjoyed many good retirement years in their home on Fourth Avenue in Gimli and she worked very hard each year in her flower garden, continuing right up to 2002. In her 65 years of marriage she was a devoted and loving wife and mother. She always enjoyed visits by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the staff of both Betel Homes in Selkirk and in Gimli for their love, care and respect, and also Dr. J. Montoedi, the nurses, lab staff and ambulance attendants at the Gimli Community Health Centre. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held in the Gimli Lutheran Church on Tuesday, December 7 at 2.00 p.m. Pastor George Johnson officiating.
