VICTOR TEMPLE Victors passing on December 6, 2004, in his 85th year at the Kildonan Personal Care Home is greatly mourned by his loving children and their spouses, Vic (Carol), New York; Walley (Doreen), Calgary; Valerie (Jim), Toronto; Ken (Kris), California. Vic was predeceased by his loving wife, Marna, in 1998 after 55 years of marriage. He was very proud of his 10 wonderful grandchildren who will remember him fondly, Shannon, Merilee, Karen, Tom, Lara, Claire, Phil, Martha, Keith and Connie. Great-granddaughter, Hannah Sue, thrilled him in recent times. Vics family included four siblings. Born in Winnipeg, he was predeceased by his parents, John and Zita; his dear sister, Alice; and his two brothers, Albert and Wilfrid. His loving sister, Rita, resides in Campbell River, B.C. In Winnipeg, Vic enjoyed the company of his nieces and nephews, Marilyn, Leanne and Leonard, and was very fortunate during his illness to be blessed with continuous loving attention from his niece Eileen (Fred) and nephew Richard. It was thanks to their devotion that Vics children were happy with his decision to remain in his hometown. Vics brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and their families, his Wildwood Park friends and special family friend, Ali Vince, will feel the absence of his unique qualities. A 1942 graduate of the University of Manitoba (Bachelor of Commerce), Vic joined the R.C.A.F. as a navigation instructor in Rivers, MB, until the end of the war, whereupon he attended the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) for a Masters Degree in Arts. He then took up a position at the Great West Life where he spent his entire 35 year career in various capacities. In addition to being a devoted husband and proud father, Vics other interests included keeping in touch with his far-flung family, the outdoors and mind challenges. His energies were occupied by visiting his children, gardening, cross-country skiing, cycling, curling, hiking, camping, swimming. Vic enjoyed attending concerts by the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, the Manitoba Theatre Centre, listening to his CDs, playing bridge, reading and completing the daily word puzzles from the newspaper. Vic was an enthusiastic resident of Wildwood Park for 57 years until March, 2003. He and Marna participated in many volunteer activities in their neighborhood. Vic was a volunteer driver for 10 years with Meals on Wheels and assisted with preparation for the annual Childrens Hospital Book Market. He was also a generous contributor to numerous charities. Vics family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of the First Floor of the Kildonan Personal Care Home where he was a resident for 14 months. Their support and caring for Vic, and their accessibility to family, were greatly appreciated. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, December 10 at Fort Garry United Church at 800 Point Rd., with the Rev. Dr. Gordon Taylor officiating. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to donate in Vics memory may consider the Alzheimers Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2, UNICEF, 535 Academy Rd., Winnipeg, MB R3N 0E2 or Fort Garry United Church, 800 Point Rd., Winnipeg, MB R3T 3L9. So sorry to just learn of Vic's death. As a friend, co-worker and certainly acquaintance of many years at the G-WL I feel a great sense of loss of a wonderful true gentleman in the real sense of the word. It was my pleasure to have the benefit of that friendship. The world was a better place for his presence - Posted by: Harold McCort (Co-Worker) on: Dec 19, 2004
