LAWRENCE ROBERT KROCKER It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Lawrence (Larry) Krocker, who died with his parents by his side on December 8, 2004. Larry fought a lengthy battle with cancer and made the courageous decision to accept the inevitability of death, dying with dignity, at peace with himself and his God. Larry was born on June 15, 1948, in Oliver, BC and moved to Winnipeg in the spring of 1950. He spent most of his school aged years in Transcona and Charleswood. He described his childhood as a happy one. He loved to talk about his antics in the classroom and enjoyed his many visits with his extended family in Broadview, SK. As a young adult, Larry loved adventure and enjoyed taking on new challenges including whitewater rafting and helicopter skiing. Laurie also liked to spend quieter times with his parents. Together they built cottages at Black Sturgeon Lake and enjoyed visiting with one another. Larry also had a love of music, playing the guitar and piano for his own pleasure and at social gatherings. Larry moved to Oakbank in 1985 with his wife Linda and son Christopher. Shortly after the move, his daughter Jenny was born. Larry spent many happy years in Oakbank building a home and barn, playing polo, caring for his family and spending time with his neighbours. During that period, he changed professions, moving from human resource management to senior administration. The highlight of his career was his work as the Superintendent of Milner Ridge Correctional Institution. Larry assumed a leadership role in establishing the facility and was responsible for all aspects of its operation. He loved working with Milner Ridge staff, many of whom stayed in touch with Larry after he left the facility. Their support and friendship and that of other colleagues, meant a lot to him. Larry will be sadly missed by his parents, Lawrence Krocker and Dorothy Krocker (nee Merkel) his children, Chris and Jenny and their mother, Linda; and her parents, Herbert and Beverly Butcher. He leaves to mourn his sister Carol Miller who he enjoyed spending time with, especially during his illness. He will also be missed by Carols husband Cory Miller; their sons, Darrin, Darnell and Jason and their families; his nephew Colin and his family; and many aunts, uncles and cousins in Saskatchewan and British Columbia. Larry was blessed with many friends who were important to him throughout his life and who cared for him and visited him during his illness. He was grateful for these friendships, including those with Ben and Erna Thiessen; Darlene and Jeff Anderson; Elaine and Dana Elliott; Barbara, John, Catherine, Maria and Kristen Bromilow; and Carol Robson all of whom played a special part in his life. In the last few years, Larry was also grateful for the support of the people from the Faith Covenant Church, including the support and spiritual leadership of Gerald Froese who helped Larry accept Gods love. The family would like to thank the Palliative Care team who supported Larry in St. Boniface Hospital and in the community. Special thanks are extended to Mark Sheppard and Louis Dansereau. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Larrys life will take place at the Faith Covenant Church, 1229 Windemere Ave. on Monday, December 13 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to building housing and provide for 25 orphaned children in Balanga/Bataan Philippines.
