LASZLO PONGRACZ Sr. September 6, 1924 - December 9, 2004 At the age of 80 years Laszlo Sr. passed away peacefully surrounded by those who loved him. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 56 years Irene; children, Frank, Zoltan (Sally), Geza (Gloria), Anna Maria and Elizabeth; and many grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters living in Hungary; and his cousin Olga Pongracz (Toth). Laszlo was predeceased by his parents; three brothers; and eldest son Laszlo Jr. Laszlo was born in Hungary in 1924. He lived in Mosonmagyarovar where he met Irene in 1947 and they were married in 1948. In 1957 he immigrated with his family to Canada, eventually settling in Winnipeg. Laszlo worked hard to provide for his family and was employed at Bay Bronze Industries until his retirement in 1988. Laszlos support of his children and grandchildren continued until his final days. In his younger days, Laszlo was an avid fisherman, bowler, ping pong player, and gained a lot of enjoyment dancing at social events. His enjoyment of sporting events also included football and hockey; he attended many Bomber and Jets games. Laszlo continued to have strong ties to both the Hungarian community and the Hungarian church throughout his life. In celebration of their 50th anniversary Laszlo and Irene returned for a visit to Hungary in 1998. They reaffirmed their love by renewing their marriage vows at St. Laszlo Church where they were wed in 1948. They also had the opportunity to visit family members and many old friends while they were there. The family would also like to express their heartfelt appreciation and thanks to all of the staff at Palliative Care Manitoba and CancerCare Manitoba, with a special thank-you to Dr. Houston and his assistant Barbara. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 11 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua (Hungarian) Roman Catholic Church, 365 Burnell St., with viewing at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Laszlos memory to the Cancer Society, Palliative Care Manitoba, or the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation.
