JOHN BROOKE BLAIR
Date of Passing: Dec 12, 2004
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN BROOKE BLAIR In the arms of his loving family, John Brooke Blair quietly slipped away, December 12, 2004 at the Victoria General Hospital at the age of 79 years. John's health deteriorated rapidly and inexplicably in the last month, and his tired body couldn't fight any longer. He leaves to cherish his memory, Jessie, his wife of 53 years, daughter Judy (Daryl Rosin) and granddaughter Jaime. He will be sadly missed by brothers-in-law, Hank and Stan Krysanski; sisters-in-law, Karen and Teresa; many nieces and nephews and the countless friends and neighbours whose lives he touched with his integrity and humour. His faithful friend, Pica, will miss her daily walks down the Crescent with Grandad , who always had time for a kind word to all that passed the gentle man in the Tilley hat. John was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Gladys, and his sister Margaret (Dunlop). John was raised in River Heights and attended Kelvin High School. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy during The Second World War at 17 years of age and became a radar operator. Upon his safe return, he attended the University of Manitoba, where he obtained a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons.). Following graduation, John worked at the Bay where he met Jessie. They were married May 12, 1951, and enjoyed many happy years together. After retiring, he took on his favourite job of all, Grandad , caring for granddaughter Jaime. His gentle decency (and cardigan sweaters) led more than one small child to ask, Are you Mr. Rogers ?? Over the years, there was no more proud avid fan, attending Jaime's baseball and volleyball games. John was an active member and Board member of Donnelly United Church, the Reh-Fit Centre and the Old Boys off Academy Club . John and Jessie loved to travel, and enjoyed many wonderful holidays throughout Canada, the United States, Europe, Mexico and the Caribbean. He loved Jazz and was thrilled when Janice Finlay and Ron Paley played at their 50th anniversary party. Funeral service will be held Thursday, December 16 at 1:00 p.m. in Donnelly United Church, 1226 Waller Ave. Interment will follow in Thomson In the Park Cemetery. In life John believed in generously giving to many charities. He would wish that those who would like to commemorate his memory, do so by donating in his name to Donnelly United Church or a charity of your choosing. Special thanks to all the I.C.U. staff at the Victoria General Hospital, especially Kirsten, Arlene and Dr. Strachan. A life well lived, a peaceful death in the arms of a loving family. No man can ask for more. THOMSON IN THE PARK FUNERAL HOME AND CEMETERY 1291 McGillivray Blvd -925-1120
