WILLIAM (BILL) TURKITCH 1922 - 2004 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Bill Turkitch on December 11, 2004. Bill will be sadly missed by his loving wife Winnie; his children, Linda (Paul) Paradis, Judy (Emile) Chartier, and Allan Turkitch; grandchildren, Ryan and Aimee Paradis, and Mitchell and Karen Chartier. He will also be missed by his sister Mary (Eric) Burrows of England; and many nieces, nephews, friends and other family members. Bill was predeceased by his parents, Dymetro and Eva Turkitch; sisters, Pauline Bodman, Stella Bakuska and Anne Bodman; brothers, Steven, John and Mike Turkitch. Before his illness, Bill enjoyed many activities, including fishing, archery, golfing and cooking. He was a member of the Norwood and St. Boniface Branch No. 43 of the Royal Canadian Legion. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces during the Second World War where he travelled extensively, including the United Kingdom and the Mediterranean. After the service his professions were a bricklayer, a firefighter, and a welder. He was a lifetime member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers. He met and married his wife Winnie in 1951 in Selkirk, MB. They spent many happy years together with family and friends, while raising their three young children in a loving home in St. Boniface. He was proud of his Ukrainian heritage. The family would like to extend its sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff and volunteers of the Deer Lodge Centre (particularly T4), and the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, for their incredible support during his 41 year residency. The family, staff and friends spent many happy hours singing together with Bill and sharing jokes. He was loved by all. Pallbearers will be Ryan Paradis, Mitchell Chartier, Bill Bodman, Douglas Bakuska, Al Beaton and Myron Borys. Funeral service will be held on Friday, December 17 at 10:30 a.m. in the Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 Des Meurons St. Interment to follow in St. Boniface Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200-6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3L 0K6, in memory of Bill.
