JOSEPH PAUL RURAK On Tuesday, December 14, 2004 at the Deer Lodge Centre, Winnipeg, Joseph Paul Rurak of Portage la Prairie, widower of the late Jean Rurak, passed away at the age of 81 years. Prayers will be held in the chapel of the Omega Funeral Home on Friday evening, December 17 at 7:30 p.m. with Deacon Bill Parrack officiating. Funeral mass will be held in the Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, December 18 at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Michael Wollbaum officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery. Joe was born on December 30, 1922 to Anne and Michael Rurak at Portage la Prairie, MB where he was raised and received his education. In 1943 he enlisted in the Canadian Army and served overseas with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles - Q.O.C.H. of Canada. In 1949 he was apprenticing as a Cabinet Maker at Haid's Cabinets shop. In 1949 he married Jean Belinski and they lived in Portage where they made their home and raised their family. He worked as a cabinetmaker for most of his life, and received great pleasure from his customer's appreciation of his fine cabinets. In the mid 1980's he was forced to retire due to health reasons. In 1995 he moved to the Lions Prairie Manor in Portage until 1997 when he moved to the Deer Lodge in Winnipeg. Joe loved to fish at the diversion and he was an avid rock collector. Some of his interests included playing cribbage and gardening. For a number of years he and Jean ran the concession at the Centennial Arena and made many friends and acquaintances. Predeceased by his wife Jean in 1993, one daughter Debby in 1978 and one brother Michael. He leaves to mourn his passing his son Jim (Sonjia) of Winnipeg and grandchildren, Rob and Stephanie and several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the staff of T3 and T4 at the Deer Lodge Centre of Winnipeg for the loving care Dad received during his time there.
