ERNA ELFRIEDE SOSZEK (nee PFITZNER) February 13, 1917 - December 11, 2004 Peacefully on Saturday, December 11, 2004, Erna Soszek passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 87 years. Erna was born in a small village near Breslau, Germany and came to Canada in June 1952. In Germany she had trained and practiced as a nurse since 1940. Upon arriving in Canada, she travelled to Ninette, MB, where she worked at the Tuberculosis Sanatorium. Erna met the love of her life, Michael Soszek, in Ninette. They first lived in Lorette before moving to Winnipeg. She worked at the Women's Pavilion of the Health Sciences Centre until her retirement in 1982. Erna was a professional and compassionate caregiver for 42 years. Her husband, Michael predeceased her in February 1983. She leaves to mourn her passing her son Arthur; her daughter Linda and husband Leonard Sudermann of Calgary, grandchildren, Michael, Jennifer and Luke; her son Peter and wife Joan, grandchildren, Stephanie (Steve), Marina, Julianne, Ben and Courtney and great-grandchild Kyla. Mom was the most loving and caring person that we as children and grandchildren could ever have been blessed with. Her kindness, guidance and willingness to always help us were unconditional. She had a special love for her grandchildren and their well-being and so Oma will be sadly missed. Erna enjoyed living at Lion's Manor, the support from caregivers, and the gentle friends she made while there. Special thanks to the doctors and nurses of the St. Boniface Hospital for the dedication and care they provided to Erna. After a beautiful life's journey, it is now time for you to rest Mom. With your unwavering faith and love, may you be welcomed into the arms of our Lord. May you enjoy unending peace and happiness with your family and friends who have gone before you. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 18, at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Jan Pastucha officiating. SAFE IN THE ARMS OF JESUS.
