He will be sadly missed and forever cherished by his devoted wife of 65 years, Anne, and his daughter Elaine. He will also be mourned by his surviving siblings: Nick Harris (Doris), Gertrude VanLeeuwen (Bernard), Jack Harris (Teenie), John Harris, George Harris (Ina). He will be sadly missed by his extended family of nephews and nieces as well as numerous friends. He was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Daisy Harris and siblings, William Harris (Emily), Teenie Dees (Bram), Mary Byle (Andrew) and Margaret Campbell (Gus). Henry was born in Winnipeg on May 5, 1913 and spent his childhood years in North Kildonan. He met the love of his life, Anne, and in 1939 they were married. A few months later he enlisted in the Armed Forces, where he spent six years, including several years overseas during the Second World War. A short time after his return, he was offered a position at CMHC, where he remained employed for over 30 years, retiring at age 65. Henry was very devoted to his family, but also to his second love - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers, where he was a season ticket holder for decades. In his youth Henry was an accomplished athlete and all around sportsman, later becoming an army fitness instructor and physiotherapist. Henry also acquired an extensive knowledge of British and American history, which he willing shared in conversation with others. The Harris family takes comfort in the realization that Henry has gone to be with his Lord. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 17 at 2:30 p.m. at Covenant Christian Reformed Church, 653 Knowles Ave. A private family interment will take place prior to the memorial service.
