MILDRED JACOBSON (nee NELSON) On December 14, 2004, at the Gimli Community Health Centre, after a brief illness, Millie passed away at the age of 74. Millie leaves to mourn her loving husband, Jack; children, David Jacobson (Marlis) and Leslie Perovic of British Columbia; grandchildren, Bonnie Perovic, Natasha, Kristjan and Stefan Jacobson; siblings, Edith Davidson of Cypress River, Bertha Homenuke (Steve) of Smithers, BC, Louis Nelson (Irma) of Lacombe, AB. She was predeceased by her sister Cecilia Chandler (Bill). Millie was educated at Luxton School and St. John's High School in Winnipeg where sports were her passion. She was an active speed skater and was particularly proud of a ball throw medal she won in 1949. After graduation she worked as a bookkeeper for Singer Sewing Machines. In 1953 she married Jack and moved to Gimli where she was thrown into the fishing industry. For many years she helped her husband in every aspect of the business, during which time she was blessed by the arrival of her two children, Leslie and David. She was very active in the community of Gimli, spending many years as a school trustee, secretary of the Lake Winnipeg Fisherman's Association, secretary for the Gimli Mayor and Chairman of the Husigim and Cornerstone Boards. She will be deeply missed, yet ever close in spirit. We will always remember your strength and courage and will always love you. A viewing and visitation will be held on Saturday, December 18 between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. at the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Gimli with cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10-120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 0L3. Goodbye my family, my life has passed. I loved you all to the very last. Weep not for me, but courage take, Love for each other, for my sake. For those you love don't go away, They walk beside you everyday. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli, in care of arrangements.
