FATHER MORRIS DZURMAN C.Ss.R. On December 15, 2004 Father Morris Dzurman, C.Ss.R., peacefully fell asleep in the Lord in St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan at the age of 77. Fr. Morris was a member of the Redemptorist Congregation of the Yorkton (Ukrainian) Province. Fr. Morris was born on August 4, 1927 in Toronto, Ontario as the youngest child of Michael and Ksenia (Troyan) Dzurman. As a young man he attended St. Rita's school and De La Salle College in Toronto. During his high school years he excelled in the cadet program and received the proficiency award. After hearing God' call a religious vocation, he joined the Redemptorists and made his first profession of vows on September 7, 1947. He did his philosophical and theological studies in the Redemptorist seminary (Waterford and Meadowvale, ON). On May 17, 1953, he was ordained a priest in Toronto by the late Bishop Isidore Borecky. In his priestly life he was as a teacher in St. Vladimir's College, in Roblin, Manitoba. Then, for many years he gave missions and retreats throughout Canada and the United States. You could always count on a good, inspiring, well-prepared sermon from Fr. Morris. He also served in several parishes either as pastor or as an assistant: in St. Mary's in Yorkton, SK; Immaculate Conception Parish, Hillside, NJ, USA; Holy Eucharist in Toronto, ON; and Sts. Peter and Paul, Saskatoon, SK. Fr. Morris was a faithful, prayerful, and holy priest who touched the lives of many by his kindness, goodness and compassion and his cheerful smile. Fr. Morris is survived by his sister Lillian of Toronto, ON and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Ksenia; by brother Fr. Bill; and his sisters Mary and Elsie. Special thanks to the Sisters of St. Joseph and the staff of St. Joseph's Nursing Home in Saskatoon for the excellent care of Fr. Morris during his last months of life. For those who wish, donations in his memory may be made to Bishop Velychkovsky Martyr's Shrine, 250 Jefferson Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2V 0M6. There will be a Vigil beginning on Sunday December 19, at 3:00 p.m. in Sts. Peter Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church in Saskatoon.
