Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLORNE JOSEPH GORDON It is with great sadness, that we announce the passing of Lorne Gordon, beloved husband of Shirley Gordon, on December 15, 2004, after a brief but intense battle with lung cancer. Lorne was born in Winnipeg, on March 8, 1926 to James and Anna Gordon. He joined the army in 1944, and after an assignment in Belgium and Holland returned home. He volunteered for service with the Musk-Ox Expedition in Churchill and flew over Northern Canada for six months, dropping supplies to the ground expeditions doing geophysical and geological studies. He then began his career painting signs and buildings in small towns across Southwestern Manitoba, which led to a 51 year span of professional painting for his company Gordon Painting and Decorating Ltd. in Winnipeg. Lorne loved his job and enjoyed providing quality work for his customers. His passion for hunting and fishing took him on many fly-in fishing trips and big game hunts in Manitoba and the U.S. He participated in several outdoor associations and was a Lifetime Member of the Winnipeg Trap and Skeet Club. He also taught Hunter Safety Training Courses for several years and supported Wildlife Conservation. Lorne went to work wholeheartedly each day, with paint brush in hand, until he was forced to retire on September 1, 2004 at the age of 78, due to his illness. He was a fighter and never accepted help easily. Lorne was a private man, who looked forward to family gatherings and hunting trips. He hunted with friends, and also independently. His strong desire for adventure allowed him to enjoy the outdoors no matter what the circumstances. Lorne also had a creative ability and could design and build anything he set his mind to. He lived each day as though it were his last. Dad...thank you for teaching us how to take on life's challenges, pursue our dreams with passion, and work hard at reaching our goals. Your animated storytelling, youthful spirit and tireless enthusiasm will live on in our hearts forever. Rest in peace. The wisest men follow their own direction. Euripides Lorne was predeceased by his baby daughter Catherine and his brothers, James, Frank, Edward, Bernard and Kenneth Gordon. He is survived by Shirley, his devoted wife of 52 years; sons, Mike (Angie) and Gary (Kathy); daughter Tracy (Bob) and grandchildren, Chase, Alex, Adam, Jenna, Andrea, James and Michael. A private family gathering has taken place in celebration of his life. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice and Palliative Manitoba or Ducks Unlimited would be appreciated.
