Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDWARD FRANK SMOLAK June 1, 1917 - December 15, 2004 Edward (Eddie) passed away peacefully at the Seven Oaks Hospital after a short illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Olive (Radinovich); sisters, Carrie Lindsay, Leona Beggs and Kit Harack (Michael). He also leaves many nieces and nephews: Jan Lowe and family, John Lindsay (Carmen), Bruce Lindsay (Mary), Gail Beggs-Scheider (Wolfgang) and family, Tom Beggs (Carol) and family, Brian Harack (Dorothy) and family, Susan Ellis (Greg) and family. Edward was predeceased by his son Edward Peter, his parents John and Frances Smolak, mother and father-in-law Mary and Peter Radinovich and his sister Millie Marshall. Edward was born in Winnipeg in 1917. He went to King Edward and Isaac Newton Schools. He began his career by working with his dad as a contractor. During the war he served in the Army then worked at McDonalds Aircraft. In 1945 he started working at CPR. Over the years he advanced to Stationmaster until his retirement in 1982. Edward lived a life filled with family and friends. He enjoyed music, nature and had a special fondness for animals. He told amazing stories and had a wonderful sense of humour. He always considered strangers as friends he hadn't yet met. His kind and gentle nature will be remembered by everyone that he touched in his life. He will be sadly missed. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 20 at 9:30 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., with a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Pallbearers: Brian Harack, Bruce Lindsay, Tom Beggs, David Harack, Paul Harack and Michael Sharpe.
